A letter from our founder on the collection she could not find and had to build herself.
Cean has always existed for one reason: to make clothing that actually does something to support your body. Not just looks good, though it does that too. Clothing that works with your body, helps it function better, and makes you feel genuinely good inside it. That has been the whole point from day one.
So when I looked at what was available during my own pregnancies and found almost nothing that met that standard, it felt less like a gap in the market and more like an obvious next step. Cean was always going to hold space in maternity wear.
I have been pregnant twice. My second pregnancy was twins, which gave me a thorough education in what a pregnant body is carrying at any given moment. The heaviness in the legs. The lower back that needs more support every week. The circulatory system working significantly harder than usual, because pregnancy increases blood volume by up to 50%. Your body is doing a remarkable amount, even when it looks like you are just standing there having a tea.
For me the lasting reminder came after, in the form of varicose veins that became quite severe following my pregnancies. Something so many women experience and rarely see acknowledged. We celebrate the baby, as we should, and we tend to move on quickly from what the experience asks of a woman's body along the way.

What we built

How we got here
I wore the first samples myself. Then sent them home with two close friends who were both pregnant around 6 months apart so we could test how you could grow through the trimesters. They wore them through their days, their walks, the moments when nothing else was comfortable. They told me what needed to change. We went back, adjusted, tested again. What came out the other side is the collection I needed during both of my pregnancies and could not find anywhere. Even our pregnant model asked to take home the samples we shot because she felt immediate relief and felt so good in it. Inside and out.
